Duruflé Requiem 1

Duruflé Requiem

Sunday 04 November 2018

All Saints' Day concert with Bergen Cathedral Choir, Edvard Grieg choir and orchestra

The French organ virtuoso Maurice Duruflé (1902–1986) composed slowly and carefully. He stated that "I am incapable of adding anything significant to the piano repertoire, view the string quartet with apprehension, and envisage with terror the idea of composing a song after the finished examples of Schubert, Fauré and Debussy." The few works that were published have, however, become new classics, and foremost among them: Requiem, composed in the period 1942-1948. The work is based on Gregorian melodies, and is performed this time in the version for choir, soloists, string orchestra, organ, harp and timpani.

Bergen Domkor is proud to present a new collaboration with the Edvard Grieg choir - in the performance of "The Ecstasies above" by the British composer Tarik O'Regan (1978). A ravishing work for choir, eight soloists and string quartet with text by Edgar Allan Poe.
