THE LONGING FOR FREEDOM DRIVES KATJA LIKE AN INNER STORM IN THIS INTENSE OPERA BY LEOŠ JANÁČEK
The young woman Katja lives under a strict and oppressive regime controlled by her mother-in-law. She feels trapped in an unhappy marriage and dreams of freedom and passionate love.
The opera's three main roles are interpreted by the exquisite soloists Ausrine Stundyte, Susan Bullock and Ladislav Elgr.
Janáček's music has been a major influence on many later composers, and his expressive style and innovative techniques have made him one of the most significant composers of the 20th century.
