Children & Young People
The aspirant choirs
As a child, singing is natural, self-evident, straightforward and spontaneous. At EGK Barn&Unge, we want to start training at an early age, before self-awareness and shyness become apparent, while singing is still natural and unproblematic. Children are open to all musical impressions; they have no cultural preferences and they are searching, playful and impulsive. In our aspirant choirs, we take care of playfulness and impulsivity, we make them fearless in the face of their own voice and we introduce them to different musical genres. They learn to sing two-part, they learn to sing in many different languages, and they experience the joy of using their bodies for music and movement.
From the first choir rehearsal, the children sing alone for the others, and the focus is on repetition of exercises to be able to train voice use from the first note. The children learn polyphonic singing early on, and they learn to sing in many different languages in which it is important to have competence in order to orientate themselves in the classical song repertoire, for example German, French, Latin and Italian.
