Håkon Matti Skrede
Skrede is a trained violinist and singer with a master's degree from the Grieg Academy in Bergen. As a singer, he has been a soloist in a number of church musical works and has also participated in many opera productions and master classes. He developed his skills as a choral conductor when he was choirmaster of the Drakensberg Boys Choir during his studies in South Africa.
Håkon Matti Skrede founded Edvard Grieg Choir (formerly KorVest) in 2002, Bergen Boys' Choir in 2008 (now Edvard Grieg Boys' Choir), Bergen Girls' Choir (now Edvard Grieg Girls' Choir) in 2010 and Edvard Grieg Youth Choir in 2013. Skrede is the artistic director of children's and youth choirs for Edvard Grieg Korene. He is choirmaster for Bergen National Opera and Bergen Philharmonic Choir, as well as conductor for Collegium Musicum.
Skrede has conducted several operas with children and young people, in addition to a number of major church musical works for choir and orchestra.
In 2016, he was nominated for a Grammy for the recording of Glagolitic Mass by Leoš Janácek, in the category "Best Choral Performance", together with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and choir. In 2017, he received Bergen Municipality's cultural award. and in 2018 the Alle kan singge award for efforts for children and young people.
