The Magic Flute

05 November, 18.00; 07, 09, 11 November, at 19.00 in Grieghallen

"THE OPERA OF ALL OPERAS!" SAYS OPERATIONS MANAGER EIVIND GULLBERG JENSEN ABOUT MOZART'S MAGIC FLUTE. IN THE AUTUMN, HE HIMSELF IS THE CONDUCTOR WHEN WE HAVE THE PLEASURE OF PRESENTING A MAGIC AND PLAYFUL VARIANT OF THE CLASSIC.

It's about the big feelings. About love and about being human. About the battle between good and evil - in a society in crisis in a mythical world.

Mozart's opera is brilliant – not just because of the wonderful music. The story has moved audiences since its premiere in 1791. Although the plot has references to Mozart's time – Europe in the wake of the French Revolution – it is easy to mold in a way that today's audiences will recognise. Something the production in Grieghallen will do to the full. We can guarantee an absolutely unique opera experience, with world-class soloists:

BRILLIANT SOLOISTS
Recently, the BBC named Mari Eriksmoen one of the very best Norwegian sopranos of all time. Now, for the first time, you can experience her as Pamina in the Grieghallen, after she has interpreted this role, among other things. in Amsterdam, Basel, Zurich and at the festival in Aix-en-Provence.

The young talent Linard Vrielink from the Staatsoper Berlin makes his acting debut as Prince Tamino, Pamina's great love. Renate Ekerhovd from Sotra is Papagena, who melts the heart of the bird catcher Papageno – sung by Thomas Oliemans. The coloratura soprano Rainelle Krause is ready for the three-stroke f as the furious Queen of the Night, and her great enemy Sarastro is sung by the bass Stephen Milling - known for his great Wagner roles, among others. at the Bayreuth Festival.

FROM THE BERGEN TO THE MET
This acclaimed and energetic version of The Magic Flute, signed by director Simon McBurney, is thus finally coming to Norway - after winning at the Dutch Opera in Amsterdam, the Aix-en-Provence Festival and at the English National Opera in London.

After the performances in Bergen in autumn 2022, Thomas Oliemans (Papageno) and Stephen Milling (Sarastro) will travel on to the Metropolitan Opera in New York to play in the same production, which will be shown there for the first time in spring 2023.
